Q&A with Rafael Spratling
Rafael joined the GA Foods' team in June 2015 as manager of our Customer Care Center. He has extensive experience managing customer care operations for both internal and external customers. Rafael has a BA in Hospitality Management/Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University and an MBA from University of Phoenix. Since many of our customers and members interact with Rafael's team, we held a Q&A session with Rafael:
I know you have a culinary background. How did you become interested in the culinary field? I learned how to cook from my grandmother and mother. I began cooking at the age of 8 by standing on a chair in front of the stove so I could see into the pots.
You made a career change into customer service. Why? Although I will always have a passion for cooking, the quality of life balance in that career field tilts too far to the left. It was hard having to always work nights, weekends, and holidays.
What do you enjoy most about the customer care field? I enjoy taking care of people and the excitement of no two days being identical!
How do you like to relax when you aren't at work? Reality TV shows, cooking, working out, shopping, and hanging with friends.
Do you have an interesting story you'd like to share? I lived in Germany for most of my grade school years and as a result, I still speak German.
What was your first job? First job was a bread packer at a sourdough bakery and within a year I became the lead overnight baker.
Who is someone you admire and why? Oprah Winfrey because she is living proof that it doesn’t matter where you start in life, with hard work and perseverance anything is possible.
Do you have a favorite sport or team? Not really a raving sports fan but I am hoping that Jameis Winston can lead the Bucs to a winning season!
What is your favorite food? Fried Chicken will always be my favorite, although I have learned to partake of it in moderation.
